Job Description

This role is a unique opportunity to lead product for a new group at eBay tasked with building new businesses for eBay Marketplaces. The Director of Product will be an important member of the management team for Business Incubation and will be expected to create and lead a development team that delivers on innovative user experiences that have the potential to be significant long-term business opportunities.   This person will be a central figure in an entrepreneurial, fast tempo environment. This position will report to the GM/Senior Director of Business Incubation. 

Job Qualifications


  • Defining the product strategy for the Incubation group.
  • Defining and putting in place the product management methodology (eg Scrum, Agile, XP), and the work practices suited in developing for new businesses
  • Working across multiple partners (business, product, and technology) to develop the overall product plan, project plans, budget, and roadmap for the Incubation group. Working with external product managers (partnerships) to negotiate technical dependencies and craft timelines and plans for integrated product releases
  • Scale and manage a team of 5-7 developers to build products in short timescales and quick iterations. Manage multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced, intense, results-oriented environment. Pursue an entrepreneurial/small-team approach to product development with clear milestones and deliverables tied to project funding stages


    • This position requires 10+ years related experience, including involvement in entrepreneurial projects/companies and quick iterative launches. Previous VC-funded company roles are a plus. The ideal candidate must excel in all areas of product development and implementation.
    • The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills.  Experience and confidence in dealing with people at all levels of the organization are essential, including outward-facing duties such as roadmap presentations to executives.
    • Experience in managing web server-side development projects essential. Knowledge of managing rich XML integration is desired (XML APIs), Java/J2EE stack knowledge also a plus. Knowledge of Ajax/Javascript frameworks also a plus. Ideally, the candidate would have experience with the various eBay APIs, including an understanding of how to craft experiences on top of them.
    • Strong and consistent track record of academic and professional accomplishments. Hands-on approach to work.
